Have questions?

At the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Institute, we understand that it can be hard to know if your child needs speech therapy. Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if your child is very verbal, they may need to work on communication skills like responding to questions, starting or ending conversations, changing topics, using gestures, and understanding other people’s body language. Early intervention is crucial for language development, so it’s important to start working on communication skills as soon as possible. If your child is very quiet, says few words, or doesn’t speak at all, it may be time to look into speech therapy. To learn more about speech therapy and how it can help your child, check out our complete guide here.

At the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Institute, we specialize in helping children communicate with others effectively through speech therapy. Our team of speech therapists can help with a variety of nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures, forming speech in a clearer way, communicating thoughts and feelings, understanding and responding to questions, discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions, noticing and understanding body language, and feeding and swallowing. With the help of our institute, your child can achieve a higher level of communication and become better able to express themselves in any environment.
