At Bridgeport School -West, we understand that knowing when your child needs speech therapy can be difficult. That’s why we have created a complete guide to help you learn about the benefits of speech therapy and determine if it’s right for your child. Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if your child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills such as responding to questions, starting or ending conversation, changing conversation topics, using gestures like pointing, and understanding other people’s body language. Speech therapy is also a critical part of early intervention for autistic children, and can help them become more independent and confident individuals. If you’re unsure if your child needs speech therapy, our guide provides everything you need to know about the signs and benefits of speech therapy.
At Bridgeport School West, our Speech Therapists strive to help your child communicate more effectively with others. Our Speech Therapy services aim to improve your child’s nonverbal skills, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) skills. We also help with forming speech in a clearer way, communicating thoughts and feelings, understanding and responding to questions, discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions, noticing and understanding body language, and feeding and swallowing. With our Speech Therapy services, we are dedicated to helping your child bridge the gap in communication and make progress towards more successful communication.
