The Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center (CHSC) is a nationally recognized, non-profit organization that has been providing specialized communication services to individuals of all ages since 1921. Founded by Helen Newell Garfield, daughter-in-law of President James Garfield, who lost her hearing as a young woman, CHSC is dedicated to helping individuals with communication challenges become independent members of the Greater Cleveland Community. Our mission is to provide lip-reading classes, hearing and speech therapy, and other specialized services to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. We are proud to be Northeast Ohio’s only organization that focuses solely on helping those with special communication needs.
