The Disability Network Capital Area (formerly known as the Capital Area Center for Independent Living) has served the Greater Lansing Area since 1976. Founded by two Michigan State University students, Jeff Peters and Len Sawich, along with their friend Duncan Wyeth, their vision was inspired by the work of Ed Roberts and the Independent Living Movement. Our mission is to ensure individuals with disabilities have the power to make choices and have greater control over their lives. Our staff of certified Rehabilitation Counselors, Social Workers, and Independent Living Specialists are 51% individuals with disabilities and use their own experiences to help others. Our service area includes Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, and Shiawassee counties. We work on a larger scale to help government and businesses make changes that benefit people with disabilities and the community as a whole.
