About Eastern Illinois Area Special Education

EIASE is a joint agreement founded in 1962 which provides specialized educational services to children with disabilities between the ages of 3 and 21, who reside in eight counties in the Eastern Illinois area. With over 600 special education personnel and 5,500 exceptional children being served, EIASE is the largest geographic special education unit in Illinois, spanning 4,000 square miles. The central special education office is located at the Loxa Building on Park Drive between Charleston and Mattoon, Illinois and is funded by local, state and federal monies. It ranks third in terms of the total number of children with disabilities served and sixth for the number of preschool children receiving daily services.
