About Eastern Illinois University STEP Program

Eastern Illinois University’s Students with Autism Transitional Education Program (STEP) is dedicated to providing support and skill development to help students with autism succeed in the classroom, their major, and college life. STEP focuses on strengthening the executive functions, social interactions, and problem-solving skills needed for academic, social, and daily living success, both at EIU and beyond. The program is mindful of the additional needs that come with transitioning to college, including increased expectations, independence, and structure. With the right supports in place, STEP helps motivated students with autism break down barriers to success. STEP is a fee-based program with a capped enrollment, providing students with autism the support necessary to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and more. Join STEP and open the door to success today!
