Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education (MCIE), Incorporated

The Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education (MCIE), Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the inclusion of children with disabilities in their neighborhood schools. Our mission is to be the catalyst for meaningful and successful participation of all students in their neighborhood schools. To achieve this, we provide administrative advocacy to support systemic change in school systems practices, collaborate with state organizations, consult with state and local education agencies, and participate in state and local policy arenas. We also provide training and support to families and educational teams to develop supplementary aids, services, and supports for students with disabilities. To promote a widespread understanding of the philosophy and practices of inclusion, MCIE offers webinars, workshops, conferences, and disseminates information through our website and social media. As a part of the national Professional Development in Autism Center (PDAC), we provide training and support for schools, families, and communities to ensure students with ASD have access to high quality evidence-based educational services. We also assist school districts with systemic planning, and offer inservice training on instruction, positive behavior supports, strategies to promote meaningful participation, individual student planning, and other related topics. Through our building-based approach, we help schools restructure special education service delivery, bringing all students back to their neighborhood school and increasing inclusive practices.
