At Melanie Phifer, MA, CCC-SLP, we understand that it can be difficult for parents to know if their child needs speech therapy. Autism is a common reason that speech therapy is recommended as many autistic children have difficulty with communication. Even if a child is very verbal, they may need help with communication skills such as responding to questions, changing conversation topics, or understanding body language. Early intervention is important for language development, so if there are any delays in this area, it’s important to start speech therapy as soon as possible. Depending on the situation, it can be obvious when a child is struggling with speaking, like if they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don’t speak at all. To help parents understand speech therapy and what it means for their child, we have created a comprehensive guide to answer any questions you may have. At Melanie Phifer, MA, CCC-SLP, we are here to help you and your child on their journey to successful communication.
