Have questions?

If you’re wondering if your child needs speech therapy, the NYS Early Intervention Program and Cortland County Health Department can help. Speech therapy is a critical part of early intervention for autistic children, as it helps them develop language, communication, and social skills. It’s important to teach language and communication skills early on, especially if your child is showing any delays. Signs that a child might need speech therapy include being very quiet, saying only a few words, or not speaking at all. To learn more about speech therapy and how to determine if your child needs it, visit our comprehensive guide on the NYS Early Intervention Program and Cortland County Health Department website.

At the NYS Early Intervention Program | Cortland County Health Department, speech therapy is designed to help children communicate more effectively, including using gestures and signs, verbal speech, AAC and more. Our speech therapists are trained to help children with nonverbal skills, forming speech more clearly, communicating thoughts and feelings, understanding and responding to questions, discerning facial expressions, noticing and understanding body language, feeding and swallowing, and even stuttering.
