About Office of Special Education

The Office of Special Education (OSE) at the Michigan Department of Education is dedicated to providing a free appropriate public education (FAPE) for children and youth with disabilities aged 3-25. We are responsible for the general supervision, funding, and administration of special education programs and services in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, administrative rules, and department procedures. We strive to ensure that all eligible children and youth receive the best educational opportunities to meet their individual needs.
