The Arc Montgomery County offers support to unpaid primary caregivers in the form of short-term respite. Caregivers of individuals with functional disabilities, intellectual/developmental disabilities, challenging behaviors, and frail senior citizens can access services for a few hours, a day, a weekend, or longer. Respite care is designed to provide temporary relief for families caring for loved ones in their home, and can be provided in a variety of venues, from the family home to community and recreational programs, camps, and approved respite facilities. Respite care is not a substitute for ongoing care, school, alternative child care, adult day care, or other funded programs.
