Ridge Area Arc is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization founded in 1957 by Franklyn and Mary Ellen Ward in Avon Park, Florida. We are dedicated to serving and advocating for individuals with developmental and other disabilities, so that they may have the opportunity to choose and realize their goals. Our foundation began when the Wards decided to provide essential educational resources and training for their son, Rob, whom they did not want to send away to an institution. Since then, Ridge Area Arc has been providing these services to the Highlands County community, starting with 17 children ages seven and older in 1957. Our mission is to ensure those with special needs have the opportunity to thrive.
