San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) is a private non-profit agency that contracts with the California state government to provide services to individuals and families impacted by developmental disabilities in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Through SDRC, a person with a developmental disability can obtain services, access other necessary resources in the community, and create a plan that supports their choices in where they live, how and with whom they choose to spend their day, and their hopes and dreams for the future. SDRC utilizes a Person-Centered Planning approach, which involves the person utilizing the services, family members, regional center staff, and anyone else invited by the individual, to make decisions regarding their care.

At San Diego Regional Center, we understand the importance of providing your child with the best speech therapy resources available. If you are considering speech therapy for your child, we recommend consulting with a speech-language pathologist to determine the most appropriate course of action. Speech therapy can help your child improve in communication skills such as responding to questions, starting or ending conversations, changing topics, using gestures, and understanding body language. Early intervention is key for children with autism and other language delays, so it is important to begin speech therapy as soon as possible. Signs that your child may need speech therapy include difficulty speaking, saying few words, or not speaking at all. For more information on speech therapy, visit San Diego Regional Center’s website for our complete guide.

Our speech therapists specialize in helping children and others learn to communicate effectively. Through the use of gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), we strive to help our clients learn nonverbal skills, form speech in a clearer way, communicate thoughts and feelings clearly, understand and respond to questions, discern facial expressions and their corresponding emotions, notice and understand body language, and improve feeding and swallowing. Let us help your child reach their full potential by providing speech therapy.
