The Arc of Dauphin County is a 501(c)3 non-profit grassroots organization with a mission to ensure that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are embraced as important members of their local community. Founded in 1953 by a group of parents wanting a better life for their loved ones with I/DD, The Arc of Dauphin County began at a time when children with I/DD were typically sent away to live in state facilities. These parents advocated for their children’s education and inclusion in society, and worked to keep their children at home with their families, where they could be loved and part of family life. To this day, The Arc of Dauphin County continues to strive for the inclusion of individuals with I/DD, providing resources and services that promote independence and create meaningful connections to the community.
