At The Autism Institute, we understand that it can be difficult to tell if your child needs speech therapy. That’s why we’ve created a guide to help you get the answers you need. Our guide covers topics like responding to questions, starting or ending conversations, changing conversation topics, using gestures, understanding body language, and more. Speech therapy is an important part of early intervention for autistic children and can help them learn effective ways to communicate. We recommend speech therapy if your child is very quiet, doesn’t say many words, or doesn’t speak at all. At The Autism Institute, our speech therapists work hard to help your child communicate effectively. We use a variety of methods such as gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to help your child with nonverbal skills, forming speech more clearly, communicating thoughts and feelings, understanding and responding to questions, discerning facial expressions, understanding body language, feeding, and swallowing. We strive to help your child reach their communication goals with our specialized speech therapy services.
