Have questions?

At United Rehabilitation Services of Greater Dayton, we understand that it can be difficult to determine if your child may need speech therapy. We know that speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children, as many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if your child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they may need to work on communication skills, like responding to questions, starting or ending conversations, changing conversation topics, and understanding other people’s body language. Speech therapy is a crucial part of early intervention for autistic children, as there is a critical period for language development and it is important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible. If your child struggles with speaking, they may be very quiet, say only a few words, or not speak at all. United Rehabilitation Services of Greater Dayton is here to help. We provide a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know about speech therapy, so you can make the best decisions for your child’s future.

At United Rehabilitation Services of Greater Dayton, our speech therapists are equipped to help your child communicate more effectively with others. Our speech therapy services encompass a wide range of approaches, including the use of gestures, signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). We can also help your child hone their nonverbal skills, form speech more clearly, communicate thoughts and feelings, understand and respond to questions, discern facial expressions and their corresponding emotions, notice and understand body language, and improve their feeding and swallowing. With the help of our experienced speech therapists, your child can gain the communication skills needed to thrive in any environment.
