The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) is a constitutionally established, elected, non-partisan body that exercises general control and supervision over the public education system in Utah. The Board is comprised of 15 members elected from different geographic areas in the state and serves four-year terms. Each month, the Board meets for a two-day session to discuss state educational core standards, educator licensing policies, high school graduation requirements, and other matters. The USBE also works to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and administers more than $4 billion to charter and district schools. The Board also appoints the State Superintendent of Public Instruction to administer all programs assigned to the Utah State Board of Education according to established policies and standards.
